SAJC Board Members

The business and affairs of the SAJC are decided upon by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors are appointed by election and meet once a month or more often if deemed necessary.

David Peacock - Chairman

David is a retired solicitor and has been a member of the SAJC since 1973. He served on the SAJC committee from 1982 to 1992 and was elected by the Membership as a Life Member in 1993.

Tony Newman - Deputy Chairman

Tony has been a member of the SAJC since 2003 and was elected to the SAJC Board in 2009. Before retiring, he worked for Mitsubishi Motors where he held senior executive positions in Finance, Purchasing, Sales and Marketing and Information Technology.
Member of the SAJC Finance and Administration & Governance sub-committees.

Chris Sargent - Deputy Vice Chairman

Chris has been a member of the SAJC since 2003. He is a lawyer with over 30 years experience and is a passionate racehorse owner.
Member of the SAJC Administration and Governance sub-committees.

Bill Spear OAM

Bill has been a member of the SAJC since 1973 and was elected to the SAJC Board in 2004. He has been in practice as a Chartered Accountant since 1968, Registered Company Auditor and Tax Agent. He is also a former Managing Director of Australia’s largest air conditioning component supplier.
Member of the SAJC Finance sub-committee.
Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia since 25th March 1974.
Life Member Squash Rackets Association of South Australia.
Life Member of West Adelaide Basketball Club Inc.
Former State Basketball, Tennis and Squash Player.
Supporter of Horseracing and has owned several racehorses over the period.

Bob Robertson

Bob has been a member of the SAJC since 1966 and has been involved in the racing industry since 1969, when he left IBM and established a computorised thoroughbred form analysis business. Bob has raced many horses and his successes include seven Group 1 victories. Bob's current term aside, he has been on the SAJC Board on two previous occasions. 1982 - 1986 and 1992 - 1996.
Member of the SAJC Racing and Marketing sub-committees.

Bodelle Francis - Lee

Bodelle has been a member of the SAJC since 2002 and has been involved in the racing industry from a young age, with her parents having had great success in racing syndicates through Finniss Lodge, and Bodelle's horse Cherishing winning four regional races.
Bodelle is currently the Operations Manager for the Francis Group of Hotels, overseeing all four venues. She also has a Bachelor Degree in International Hotel Management and in 2006 was awarded the Australian Hotels Association's National Young Hotel Manager of the Year award.
Bodelle hopes to use her extensive hospitality experience to benefit the Club and is passionate about providing the best customer service to our members and stakeholders.

Steve Kelton

Steve has had a long term interest in horse racing and rarely misses a Saturday meeting. Steve owns, breeds, races horses and has been an SAJC member for over 20 years.
Steve has a strong corporate background in leadership and management, and believes this has provided him with the significant experience in corporate governance, marketing and budgets. He has a proven track record working wihtin large, complex organisations as a team player and a person with energy, capacity and common sense.
Steve's philosophy is to work with people to achieve agreed outcomes.

Allan Burchard

Allan has been an SAJC member since 1982. As a Chartered Accountant and partner in the accounting and advisory firm, KPMG, Allan has been responsible for the audit of the SAJC for some 15 years until 1998 when he accepted a position with responsibility for the firm's operations in Central Asia.
Allan's interest in racing dates back to his teenage years in the South East, regularly attending race meetings in the area. He owns shares in a number of horses, and has enjoyed the fun, excitement and the expectation that goes with seeing them race.

Greg Stewart

As an 18 year old in Darwin, Greg took part time employment as a bookmaker clerk, and so began his passion for, and love of horses and all things racing. He worked on several commercial business ventures in Darwin and Adelaide over serveral years.
In 1989 Greg and his family moved back to Adelaide. In 1992 Greg bought the one man Holdfast Insurance Brokers business which now has 4 offices in Adelaide, Melbourne, Palmerston and Darwin.
Greg is a sponsor of the SAJC, and with friends races 31 horses.
